A new music game show is coming to TV (and concert parking lots), and it looks perfect for mega-fans

Current game shows like Beat Shazam, It’s my jamand the Name this melody reboot have kept musical game shows alive and well on the small screen, balancing the abundance of celebrity-filled talent pageants such as The voice. But these series tend to test contestants’ overall awareness of popular music more than any deeper knowledge of songs and artists. Everything changes with the next series of AXS TV Car parkand as the title suggests, it features one of the most unique game show settings imaginable: concert parking lots.

Debut on AXS TV on July 12, Car park will be hosted by ESPN Around the Horn and G4 The Show Attack veterinarian Zach Selwyn, who will give unsuspecting viewers a chance to earn some well-deserved cash just for being knowledgeable fans. The show’s four-episode first season features Selwyn & Co. appearing in the parking lots of different arenas and putting some fans on the spot, with the challenge of answering a variety of multiple-choice questions regarding the groups in the lead. poster. The shortlist of said acts is below, along with the airdates:

  • Metallica – July 12
  • The Rolling Stones – July 19
  • Imagine Dragons – July 26
  • Coldplay – August 1

Check Car park trailer below before we learn more about the new AXS TV series.

Here is how the game will unfold. Each fan will have the chance to answer up to 10 questions about the aforementioned groups, with the first correct answer earning $5, with the reward doubling each time. (So $10 for question 2, $20 for question 3, etc.) Everyone could potentially walk away with a grand total of $2,560, just for being a devoted and educated fan. Or they can also leave at any time if they don’t want to risk losing it all on a wrong guess, because that’s all it takes to be eliminated. And even if they don’t have the answers immediately at hand, there are several ways candidates can get help.

With a nicer set of options on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?lifelines, Car park will allow puzzled candidates to directly ask for a hint, text a friend, or search the internet for 30 seconds to try and find the answer. I can’t think of anything about Metallica that can’t be discovered with a nifty Google search, but I bet the show’s creative team has thought of it. And speaking of Metallica, watch a clip from the series premiere of the AXS TV game show below, which features an overview of the rules, followed by a fun Q&A.

It looks like the show will be another example of AXS TV’s unique approach to music-focused programming, which also includes the endlessly fascinating scandal centered Music’s Greatest Mysteries (which debuted its second season in March), the fun and informative list based Top 10 revealed, and its many concert series broadcast over the years. One can only imagine a certain Danger! the contestant would have loved to see a game show episode based on the Rolling Stones before wrongly identifying Michael Caine as Mick Jaggersince it was… simply wrong.

Here’s what Zach Selwyn had to say about the new show in a statement:

Parking Lot Payday is the ultimate pre-game gig, featuring the incredibly capable fans who are as much a part of this legendary band’s history as the hits they’ve created. It’s a really fun and interactive series that fans of all ages can enjoy. We had a great time putting it together and can’t wait to share it with AXS TV audiences when Parking Lot Payday debuts on July 12th.

One can only imagine how rowdy things could get with a show like this, as well as what other gigs and events Car park could strike in the future.
