Wheel of Fortune host John Burgess, 78, is rushed to hospital and admitted to intensive care with a bacterial infection
Legendary game show host John Burgess has been rushed to hospital with a bacterial infection.
The Wheel of Fortune and Catchphrase star was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Royal Perth Hospital on Wednesday evening.
It is understood the 78-year-old is in stable condition, with his wife Gianna by his side.

Burgess’s manager, Evan Broadway, said western australia newspaper that the media personality is to be removed from office on Friday.
Burgess apparently already wants to return to work to host his radio gig on Perth station 6iX.
“He wanted to work on Saturday, and we said ‘No, mate, take the weekend, just take the day off,'” Mr Broadway said.
“But that’s how loyal he is to his listeners.”

Burgess is best known for hosting Wheel of Fortune alongside Adriana Xenides from 1984 to 1996.
Adriana sadly passed away in 2010 at the age of 54 after suffering a ruptured intestine.
After a successful and extended stint on Seven’s Wheel of Fortune, Burgess moved to Nine to host Catchphrase from 1997 to 2003.

One of the last times Burgess was photographed in public was in December 2019, when he was spotted posing alongside former Married At First Sight star Dino Hira at Nine’s studio Perth.
The presenter, formerly known as ‘Baby John’ due to his young age when he joined the media industry, stood in a charming photo with the beaming reality star.
Despite his middle age, John looked fit and vibrant in a stylish bright yellow shirt.
Dino shared the photo on Instagram, captioning it: “How not to smile and enjoy the day you come across Australia’s longest serving game show host and one of my favorites, Burgo!”
“Much respect to him for his talent and work ethic!” he said.
