Meet Hero Daniels, host of Africa Magic’s Come Play Naija Game Show

Here’s what he had to say about his new gig and what viewers can expect from the game show, which airs Thursday night from 9 p.m. on the Africa Magic Showcase, Urban and Family channels.

I like to think of myself as a very local guy with global appeal. If you ever want to kidnap me, give me fried dodo with ewagoin and I’ll pay the ransom. I also like to tell jokes, but I never joke with my bag.

Why did you accept the role of host on Come Play Naija?

Unemployment motivated me…just kidding. I’m a huge game show fan, and what better platform is there to host a game show than on DStv and GOtv!

Is this the first game show you’ve hosted?

This is the first game show I’ve hosted on this scale. I held several hosting roles with Ebonylife TV and Linda Ikeji TV. In 2016, I hosted the biggest carnival in Africa (Calabar Carnival) for ELTV. In 2017, he was selected to represent Nigeria in the next TLC Great Presenters Search held in South Africa and organized by TLC Africa.

In 2018, I hosted one of Nigeria’s most beloved satirical TV shows, The Report Card. The show was consistently on YouTube’s trending chart for 13 weeks, reaching number 1 in week 7.

In 2019, I was selected as the host of the biggest science quiz contest in Nigeria, InterswitchSPAK which is running till date.

Additionally, at the start of the pandemic lockdown, I produced and hosted the Isolation Games, an online game show intended to engage people in lockdown even as the world came together to fight Covid-19. It has featured guests and viewers from over 5 continents. However, Come Play Naija is on a much larger scale and an Africa Magic original! So it’s “Hoooooogggggee”

What are some of the things viewers should expect from the show?

Viewers should expect maximum engagement. This is a variety game show. So different interesting games will be played consecutively, and they are so attractive that you won’t take your eyes off the screen. But beyond fun, MultiChoice Nigeria is also committed to enriching its subscribers. You can earn money as a participant or viewer of the Home Play edition.

We met Hero the comedian, what should we expect from Hero Daniels the host?

Hero the comedian and the TV host are pretty much the same. My personality wouldn’t change. I’m just here to have fun while putting money in your pocket. In this economy, “urgent 2k” is very necessary and Hero the TV host will guide you on your way to prosperity. It’s a family game show; expect everyone to be entertained by my family self.

Is there anything else you would like to tell viewers?

I will tell them to renew their DStv/GOtv subscriptions because their weekend is about to be lit. It doesn’t matter if you’re a baby boomer, millennial, or Gen-z, we’ll keep “SAPA” very far away from you while you sit back like the king/queen that you are and entertain yourself.

Come Play Naija will be broadcast on Thursdays and Fridays from 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 p.m. on Africa Magic Showcase, Urban and Family.

The show will take place in five segments – “Trivia Time”, “Obstacle Course 1”, “Obstacle Course 2”, “Obstacle Course 3” and “Spin the Wheel”. Each segment will require one or more team members to participate in the games worth 400,000 Naira to 2,000,000 Naira. Up to N5 million will be up for grabs in each episode.

Meanwhile, active and new DStv and GOtv customers have a chance to win cash prizes with the “Home Play” edition of the show by predicting the winner of Saturday’s live games. The first 40 correct predictions will earn 50,000 naira per week. Download MyDStv or MyGOtv apps to reconnect or use USSD code *288#.
