Do you remember playing the game Hot Lava when you were a kid, it’s now a game show on Netflix.
Hot Lava was a popular children’s game at the time. It makes me feel like the grumpy old man on the block yelling at you to stay off his weed saying that, but back when I was a kid parents made their kids go out and play . There were no screen time issues. In reality, that’s where we wanted to be anyway. We were afraid that if we stayed in the house, our mothers would give us chores to do.
Our imagination was our Internet. My friends and I invent games and things to do all the time. There were also old school favorites like Ghost In The Graveyard, Freeze Tag and Dodgeball to name a few. One of the most popular games in my neighborhood was Hot Lava. It was quite simple. The floor was hot lava. If you touched it, you would burn and be eliminated from the game. We were setting up obstacles to climb over. The last person standing wins the game.

With so many streaming services, all of these channels need content. They will turn just about anything into a spectacle. If becomes a hit, they do more. When it drops, they just cancel the series. One such current offering is based on the children’s game, Hot Lava. The show is called Floor Is Lava on Netflix. This is basically a live-action version of the contest. Of course, a much larger production.

The show must have gone well because they ordered a second season. This time, three residents of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are social media influencers trying to make a name for themselves on television.
