Oregon begins four-game series with UCSB

The Ducks’ third series of the season is here as Friday night Oregon (5-3) takes on UCSB (5-2) in a four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.

Oregon is coming off a four-game sweep of the St. John’s Red Storm, where the Ducks beat their opponent 58-9, breaking multiple school offensive records in the process. The Ducks’ red bats are led by Drew Cowley, Colby Shade and Brennan Milone, all of whom are hitting well over .400, leading the Ducks in most major offensive categories.

On the mound, Oregon had plenty of success pitching Saturday and Sunday in the St. John’s Series as Isaac Ayon, and Tommy Brandenburg staged two rebounds after a less-than-stellar introduction to 2022.

Brandenburg and Ayon combined for an earned run over 11 innings, keeping St. John’s quiet as the offense did its thing. Oregon’s bullpen has also been excellent in the series, allowing just two earned runs in the entire four-game series.

Santa Barbara enters the four-game series, winning four of its last five contests. Santa Barbara was ranked 7th last year before the Ducks traveled and swept the Gauchos in Santa Barbara.

“There are some things we take away from last year’s slate,” Wasikowski said. “So good question. A lot of their pitchers, their front row pitchers from last year, there was a turnover. That doesn’t mean it’s worse this year. They have stallions there on the mound. So just from a starting pitcher’s perspective, they’ve lost a few other guys on the hill that started against us last year. There’s going to be different starters but they’re really, really good pitchers. So the tape clearly shows this to us.

Santa Barbara sends RHP Corey Lewis to the mound against Oregon’s RHP Adam Maier for Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
