Squid Game will return for a second series, according to its creator and director.
South Korean dystopian show was a huge hit – becoming a streaming platform Netflixthe biggest launch ever.
Over 100 million people watched the program the first month.
Most shows in South Korea run for just one series, but Hwang Dong-hyuk said that due to the reaction, “I almost feel like you don’t give us a choice.”
Mr. Hwang said, “There has been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season.
“It’s in my head right now. I’m currently in the planning process. But I think it’s too early to say when and how it’s going to happen.
“So I promise you this, Gi-hun will be back and he will do something for the world.”
The series is set in South Korea and sees people with high debt being asked to play a series of challenges that could see them win 45.6 billion won (roughly £ 28 million).
Competitors have to beat 455 other people to make money while playing kids games like Red Light, Green Light – but the catch is if you lose you die.
It premiered in September and was part of Netflix’s effort to stream more international programming.
Since unexpected success, those who starred in the series have gained enormous fame.
Model and actor Jung Ho-yeon used to travel, but when she landed in LA this time a border guard demanded her signature.
Lee Jung-jae, who plays the main character Seong Gi-Hun, has worked in South Korea for 25 years.
Now he is recognized on the streets of the United States.
He said, “It’s amazing, isn’t it? People go around and say hello.
“So I really don’t know how to respond to all the love. It’s so great to be able to meet the fans who have loved and watched the show so much.”
